UP to 600 new homes could be built on Chepstow's former Mabey Bridge site.
The plans exceed the 350 houses intially mentioned for the site in the county's Local Development Plan.
Developers have proposed to create a new neighbourhood that includes a range of new apartments, houses and some sheltered accommodation for the elderly along with new leisure facilities.
The development includes a network of open spaces including footpaths, recreation areas and improvements to the highways network.
Spaces will be created to provide high a high quality habitat for wildlife in the area.
The proposal has sparked several responses from members of the public.
One resident objected to the plans. She said: "We do not have the infrastructure to support such a development in the area.
"We currently lack enough school places,
suitable roads and sporting/outdoor facilities for the current community let alone for such a number of new properties."
Another Monmouthshire resident spoke out in support of the plans. He said: "Please pass the application and then join up the missing link between Chepstow and Symonds Yat.
"I have cycled long distant paths all over the world and the Wye Valley cycle way would be up there with the very best bringing all the economic and social benefits to the local communities along the route."
Chepstow Town Council will discuss the plans at their meeting tonight (26th November) and decide whether or not recommend the plans for approval or refusal to Monmouthshire County Council.
