THE building of Monmouth's new skatepark reached the half way point last Wednesday (11th February).

With the skatepark beginning to take shape, members of Monmouth Off Street Project gathered to check on progress. These included police officers, county councillors, prominent supporters and sponsors, and some of those who are looking forward to the chance to use the park.

There are now recognisable ramps and the making of a bowl for skaters and BMXers to make the most of when complete, with bars and structures about the place giving an idea of how the park will eventually look.

PCSO Joe Facchiano, who helped get the project off the ground and was present on Wednesday, said: "We are excited to see the skateboard park taking shape and it is refreshingly pleasing to have had so many businesses and residents, both in Monmouth and other counties support us and continue to do so.

"From a policing point of view, this project has been significant in keeping the interest of local BMX riders and skateboarders who have been both patient and productive with local fund raising.

Monmouth Off Street Project isn't just about the skateboard park, it's about giving young people a purpose and a voice in how Monmouth develops."
