Phoebe Hodgson, Dorothy Johnson and Hannah Rogers, three Year 12 students from Monmouth Comprehensive School, have recently returned from a trip to Wisconsin, USA ,where they took part in the Rotary World Affairs Seminar which, this year, had as its topic ‘Climate Change: Youth Take Action’.

Their trip was sponsored by Rotary Monmouth and the Rotary District 1100 and, in order to take advantage of this opportunity, the students had to go through a rigorous selection process, facing stiff competition from candidates proposed by other Rotary clubs in the district.

The purpose of the conferences, which take place annually and have a different theme each year, is to empower young people to help create a better world for all. The passion that the experience instilled in Phoebe, Dorothy and Hannah came through very clearly when they gave a presentation about their trip to the members of Monmouth Rotary. They had met delegates from all over the world and heard inspirational speakers who presented a variety of slants on the problems associated with and the possible solutions to global warming.
