A CHEPSTOW man raised more than £1000 for Home-Start Monmouthshire by running five marathons in five days.

Dan Morgan completed the exhausting challenge in June and has now donated his total of £1220 to the charity which helps young families.

The five marathons consisted of a 13.5 mile run to his place of work at Henry Howard Finance in Langstone and then a 13.5 mile run home to Chepstow.

This is the second year in a row Mr Morgan has run for Home-Start, last year he raised £800 by running four marathons in March.

Mr Morgan said the idea behind all of this running came from wanting to help out a local charity.

“I was googling local charities because I wanted to do something local because with the bigger charities you’re not really sure how much goes to the people that need it.

“So I wanted to do something that ties in with families and young kids and Home-Start was one of the ones that popped up.”

Despite being the only person running Mr Morgan could not have completed the challenge without some help, while one friend who was planning to complete the marathons with him had to pull out with injury he still received extensive support.

Mr Morgan said: “It was really, tough, I think I massively underestimated it and I didn’t do a massive amount of training so I was relying on my base fitness to get me through.

“I had lots of support from friends and family. A few businesses got on board, one of my mates owns Castles Brewery, they got on board and pledged a substantial amount and Dan Hines helped me out with 1Life1Time t-shirts, so a big thanks to them.”

Home-Start Monmouthshire manager, Pam Lloyd was extremely thankful, she said Mr Morgan’s amazing effort would be a big help to the charity.

“We have to raise about £7,000 ourselves apart from grants and it is just brilliant when someone comes along and just raises money.

“It goes towards keeping the service afloat because otherwise we wouldn’t be able to provide support to families in Monmouthshire. So we can continue to help families that are struggling in some way where there is a child under five.”
