MONMOUTH Male Voice Choir will be singing on the pitch at the Principality Stadium before next month’s rugby international between Wales and Scotland.
The choir were selected to perform at the first of this year’s RBS 6 Nations matches in Cardiff by the regular international match conductor Dr Haydn James.
Chairman of the choir Huw Edwards said: “This is an incredible opportunity for a choir that was only formed three years ago. We are all excited to be asked to sing on the pitch to help entertain the crowd and add to the unique atmosphere of the stadium.”
The choir plans to have over forty members performing on the pitch and are rehearsing twice a week under Musical Director Ian Russell. They will be singing well known favourites to entertain the crowd such as Sospan Fach, Calon Lan and Cwm Rhondda and also Loch Lomond as well as the two national anthems Flower of Scotland and Hen Wlad Fy Nhaddau.
“To sing before over 70,000 fans and millions watching on TV is an incredible way to start the year and shows that the choir is going from strength to strength. We may not have been good enough to perform at the stadium in our boots but we are certainly good enough to perform with our voices”.
