A factory site in the centre of Chepstow is for sale, making room for a possible 350 homes to be built on the land. Savills Estate Agents is preparing to submit an outline planning application that will provide for a minimum of 350 new homes, full public access to the river front, highway improvements and other public facilities. The Mabey Bridge works site, located behind Tesco, is allocated for housing in the Local Development Plan (LDP). Juliette Stacey of the Mabey Group, said: "We are very excited about these proposals. "This redevelopment will be a major project improvement for Chepstow in a highly sustainable and accessible location. "As a company we have always worked closely with, and supported the local community for which we have a historic strong loyalty. "Mabey Bridge would not be the company it is today without the people and community of Chepstow and we believe this redevelopment of the site will provide a further legacy from the company to the town. "We remain committed to Chepstow and will relocate our Station Road manufacturing to our state-of-the-art Newhouse site, which with its close proximity to the M48 is perfectly suited to our requirements." Savills Cardiff and Birmingham offices are coordinating the site marketing targeting developers from all over the UK. Gareth Carter, director at Savills Cardiff office, has already had several expressions of interest. He said: "The Mabey Bridge site has been considered for development for many years and its timely release to the market coincides with a period of increasing demand for new homes, hence the opportunity will  attract interest from both regional and national house builders. "The site benefits from its close connection to the town centre." "It also has an adjoining rail link directly to Birmingham and Cardiff, and via Newport to Bristol and London, making it an ideal location for commuting to major commercial centres. "Initially we are inviting interest from suitably experienced developers and will then, with the owners, go through short listing exercises to identify a suitable buyer or partner to take over our planning submission and develop the site as a whole or in phases."
