A FORMER Redbrook song-writer has been recognised in a national competition for his talent.

Jim Mulliner, who has written song lyrics for 25 years, entered two original songs into the UK Songwriting Contest judged by top artists in the business.

His song Sunny Days was a semi-finalist in the Lyrics Only category and pop song Keep Your Distance received Commended Entry recognition.

Jim said: “I was overjoyed with the results as I didn’t have any expectations going in.

“I just stumbled over the competition, it was mentioned on a TV programme called Buskers. I’d never heard of it before so I thought I’d give it a go.”

The contest originally launched in 2002 and has had more than 70,000 songs submitted and dished out £1 million worth of prizes.

It allows for experienced songwriters and complete beginners to compete together on an equal basis.

The competition is well known in the international music business as an important launching pad for new songwriting talent.
