A Monmouth woman has set herself a target to shed some weight and raise some money for a cause close to her heart.?

Seeing how St David’s Hospice cared for the family of two friends in their last days, Louise Uttley was inspired to help them make a difference: “It was St David’s Hospice at Home nurses that helped my friends make the transition from hospital to home easy and without them the family would’ve been in disarray,” she said.?

“They offered support during and after as palliative care and were, seemingly, ghosts within the patients’ home.”

?Louise started training in March this year after shedding an impressive five and a half stone in fifteen months.

She set her own goals and completed her ‘couch to 5K’ by the start of May.

Louise then ran her first, and currently only, 10K run in Hereford.?She has set her goals high and wants to raise funds for St David’s Hospice and wants 500 people to sponsor her £1 each for this worthy cause.?

Louise will continually be carrying her sponsor form around with her or you can give directly via the just giving page

The money raised can pay for; •three Hospice at Home Nurses to stay with a patient overnight and give all the care they need in their own home surrounded by loved ones; • two and a half Clinical Nurse Specialists to visit a patient and their family twice in a week to help stabilise their symptoms; • 50 Hospice at Home Nurses to care for someone in their own home for one hour, giving all the care they so desperately need at the end of their life.
