A FLOWER grower from Llanishen will be celebrating British Flower Week next week by surprising Monmouthshire residents with floral gifts.

Justine Scouller of Far Hill Flowers will be leaving posies of her home-grown British flowers randomly around Monmouth and the outlying areas to "brighten someone's day" and remind them of the need to support British farmers.

British Flower Week runs from 15th to 19th July and is held as a celebration of native flowers, and the people who continue to grow them, despite pressures from large overseas producers.

The 'lonely bouquets' will be left during the week for dog walkers, runners, or people passing by to stumble upon and take away with them.

Justine said: "I hope these posies will bring a smile to people's faces, and remind them to support their local growers.

"People are becoming more and more aware of where their food comes from, and it's these people who are starting to think about where their flowers come from too.

"The 'artisan floristry' sector is attracting more and more sellers from across the country to grow native flowers for weddings, events, and general decoration.

"Of course there will always be people who want blue roses in the middle of winter, but flowers like lupins, natural roses and sweet peas are real cottage garden classics and shouldn't be forgotten."
