A NEW piece of artwork is now on display at Chepstow Library.
Titled "Reading Journey", the piece has been created by Year 8 pupils at Chepstow School, working with Chepstow Library's garden friends group.
The Friends of Chepstow Library successfully applied to Chepstow Town Council's Community Grant Scheme in 2014 for funds to produce a banner to display on the railings of the ramped area of the library garden.
Guided by art teacher Judith Lowery, the pupils were asked to produce a banner which would depict a reading journey from young child to adult.
They were asked to begin with images for the very young, drawing on fairy tale ideas, and to carry on the theme through to a teenage section and on to adulthood.
The piece looks at the world of reading opportunities available to anyone who picks up a book.
Local landmarks were included too with Chepstow Castle, the River Wye and Chepstow's Old Bridge in the piece.
The banner is aimed at persuading people to make more use of Chepstow Library's facilities, with the garden available to anyone who wants to sit and relax with a book, newspaper or magazine or use the free wifi on offer.
The garden can be accessed during daylight hours whenever the library is open.
