THE largest Lancia rally in the northern hemisphere descended on the Monnow Valley near Skenfrith last Saturday, 9th June at the invitation of the Friends of St Bridget’s Church, Skenfrith.

Over 43 Lancias of all ages had made their way from Chepstow’s St Pierre and stopped off at Tregout Farm, home to Petals of the Valley, at the invitation of Jonathan and Desdemona Freeman.

With 10 Lambda Torpedos, some Aprilia Berlinas and a clutch of Aurelias, the Lancia Sliding Pillar Rally 2018 was a unique sight around the Monmouthshire countryside.

One 1934 Augusta had travelled down from South Derby and had ben a barn find for it’s owner. The car was a total wreck with no running boards or roof and later series doors strapped on with rope. The owner had researched the history of the vehicle and it seems that it had been made in Turin in August 1934 and shipped to Glasgow to the purchaser.

It has a narrow angle V4 1200cc engine, quite advanced for its age.

After enjoying the hospitality of the Freemans, they made their way to Skenfrith where they parked up and allowed members of the public to browse, all for a donation for St Bridget’s Church.
