Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has called on local MP for Monmouthshire, Catherine Fookes, to back his calls for a U-Turn on the Family Farm Tax.

Mr Fox, and his Conservative colleagues in the Senedd, have been consistently calling for the UK Labour Government to reverse their damaging changes to inheritance tax relief.

Following the “chaos” that ensued in the House of Commons recently, whereby the Government offered further concessions on their Universal Credit and PIP Bill during the debate, demonstrating further U-Turns by the Prime Minister, the bill was voted through by Labour MPs.

Mr Fox has highlighted that if Labour MPs are happy to vote through legislation containing a substantial amount of U-Turns, then they should turn their attention to other damaging policies that have been brought in under Labour, such as the Family Farm Tax, and reverse them.

Local MS for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has said: “What we saw recently in the House of Commons was nothing short of astounding. To see the fundamental basis of the bill change whilst its being debated shows a Government that simply has no idea what they are doing.

“I truly believe that most Labour MPs didn’t know by the end what they were actually voting for, as the bill has been subjected to so many U-Turns, yet the Labour MPs, including our own MP in Monmouthshire voted it through.

“The impact of that bill’s changes will no doubt lead to further tax rises for the working people of Wales, but it does show that Labour MPs are willing to vote though U-Turns from their original policy positions.

“With this in mind, I hope they turn their attention to the devastating Family Farm Tax, that will quite honestly decimate the industry unless something is done.”
