MADAM,
Although, we were pleased to see some good examples of seating by some shops, and various other sites. Interior and open spaces were considered inadequate in several other areas. Examples suggested Overmonnow, Rockfield, Wyesham and Osbaston; older people suffering from respiratory and walking problems would gain, and obviously others in the community. Elderly residents would appreciate the rest and chat if, the local authorities would introduce into the community the vision and principles publicised in their single integrated plan.
As an executive, we could help from a financial angle and would be prepared to discuss the ramifications. The Older People Strategy reflects the United Nation Principles. These principles relate to independence, participation, care, self-fulfilment and dignity. Along with other councils in Wales, Monmouthshire County Council has already signed agreements to The Dublin, Ottawa and Wales Local Government Charters to these principles.
The Monmouth Community Council could be approached and Monmouth Partnership on this issue, I would welcome a call from any co-opted or elected councillor and others in consideration of what can be done.
