A plaque commemorating the career of a former Chepstow mayor will be made more visible in future after the wishes of a ten-year-old girl were voiced.
Jasmine Dorel, grand-daughter of Ted Dorel, wrote to Chepstow Town Council after she became concerned that her grandfather's plaque was very visible to passers-by.
Jasmine, from Shirenewton, wrote: "The plaque mentions Mr T Dorel (my grandfather) re opening the arch in 1986. However, nobody gets to see this lovely plaque and its historic nature.
"I would be grateful if the plaque could be moved somewhere the public could see it, perhaps on the other side of the road by the walkway".
The council decided at its AGM on Wednesday (22nd May) to write a letter back to Jasmine expressing its "delight" that she had taken the time to write, and thanking her for her concern.
The council has gone on to say that the plaque was previously housed outside the arch, but was moved into the window in question after an attempt was made to steal it.
Councillors agreed that a spotlight will be provided for the plaque and an extra plate will be added to the piece to note Mr Dorel's MBE, awarded in 2009.
86-year-old Mr Dorel served on Chepstow Town Council for 30 years before his retirement in 2008, as well being elected as mayor and representing Chepstow on Monmouthshire County Council.
