HUNDREDS gathered in the walls of Chepstow Castle last weekend (13th and 14th July) to celebrate 100 years since a Hollywood film was shot on the site.

Ivanhoe was played on a projector to an audience of more than 400 over the two nights, accompanied by international singer and pianist Karl Daymond, who included music composed in 1913. Mr Daymond was also joined by a 100-strong singing club.

Ivanhoe was one of the first Hollywood films made abroad.

The silent adventure movie features knights and kings and was one of the first Hollywood movies to be shot on location. Copies of Ivanhoe are preserved only at the Museum of Modern Art in Midtown Manhattan, New York City; The National Film Archive, London and Chepstow Museum.
