MADAM,
We live in extremely interesting times, changes are happening fast, and sometimes furious. Life in a community like Monmouth can be frustrating, yet, still recognisable from seventy years ago.
Yet, as I grow older, I still wonder why more locals do not question what affects them. For instance the farmers’ hopes/ ideas post Brexit; do they know what the PM has on offer and will they benefit, and are they pleased we have left Europe?
It would be nice to hear from our young people their views and expectations, on life in Monmouth. Do they expect to leave Monmouth to find work?
Our older people? How are they coping with everyday life?
Are we happy about having one petrol garage in Monmouth? Are we content with seating arrangements at our bus station and around our areas? Who leaves the lights on all day on our roads and why? What is the state of wellbeing of our residents?
Our accountable representatives must have knowledge they can impart publicly.
Thanks to our local Beacon, interesting letters can be shared or maybe supported. We will not necessarily agree, but we can all cheerfully agree to disagree. Transparency of information and perspectives can be gained from one another’s experiences and hopes.
S G Gilbert
