The traditional Monmouthshire Hunt meet on New Year’s Day saw crowds gather to admire the horses and the hounds.

Around 25 horses and riders gathered for the annual event with a chance for the well-wishers to see the horses and ponies up close.

One of the favourites was a Shetland pony named Paloma with her rider Eva from Cardiff and another crowd favourite was Natty with its rider Phoenix from Abergavenny who attended the Boxing day meet there.

Charlie Dando was Master of the Hounds as well as Master Huntsman as well, along with Mrs Williams and Mrs Watkins and Glyn Bennet.

Master Huntsman Charlie Dando wished everyone a Happy New Year and thanked the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers Regiment for allowing them to meet at the castle.

“It’s a pleasure to be here and I’m sure we’ll be here next year.

“The Monmouthshire hunt supporters have put on a fantastic meet for us all, so thank you very much to them.

“I wish you all a very happy New Year”.

The horses and hounds made their way to Buckholt woods for a spot of trail hunting.
