THE High Sheriff of Gwent visited the Gwent Outdoor Centre last Friday (25th September) and was impressed with the facilities on offer.

During his visit, the High Sheriff of Gwent, Andrew Tuggey DL (pictured centre) said: “I am the High Sheriff of Gwent this year and part of the remit I have set myself is to learn more of what is being done in Gwent for young people.

“I have been mightily impressed with the facilities offered and the dedication of Ian Kennett and his whole team. It was good to see Year 6 from Nant Celyn Primary in Cwmbran gaining so much from their programme and so obviously enjoying themselves - students and teachers.”

Hilston Park is a residential outdoor education centre that allows school children to explore the great outdoors in a safe environment.

Head of service Ian Kennett said: “Gwent Outdoor centres operate three sites including the one at Hilston Park. The service mainly caters for young people from the Gwent area but also has visitors from all over the UK.

“We are delighted to welcome the High Sheriff of Gwent to show him our wonderful facility and examples of the excellent work we do here.”
