MADAM, This coming Saturday (20th June) Monmouth with be visited by members of the Gurkha community in Cwmbran who will be making a street collection in aid of the Nepal Earthquake Appeal. There are many Nepalis who have made their homes in Gwent and have become valued members of the communities they have adopted, and now they are working together to help their families and countrymen back home. This enormous bhuin chalo (earthquake) has caused devastation in the capital Kathmandu, and widespread rural areas, and the funds raised this weekend will be divided between DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee) and The Gurkha Welfare Trust - the two most reliable ways of delivering emergency shelter and food, clean water and blankets.  Now, as the monsoon approaches, may I urge the people of Monmouth to dig deep in support of the devastated people of Nepal not only for this immediate aid but for the ongoing support that will be needed to rebuild their lives. Andrew Tuggey (High Sheriff of Gwent)
