FOUR-YEAR-OLD Ruby Atkins has been given the go-ahead to receive a life-changing operation in four weeks time.

Ruby from Rogiet suffers with bilateral cerebral palsy and has been approved for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) treatment.

The invasive surgery involves entering the vertebrae and cutting the portion that carries messages from the brain to the legs.

Combined with physiotherapy, Ruby is expected to be able to walk unaided.

A county-wide campaign was initiated by Ruby's family to raise £40,000 for the operation which is not currently funded by the NHS.

Ruby will have the operation in Bristol on the 27th July.

Ruby's dad, Antony Atkins, said he was "very happy" that Ruby has received the go-ahead for the operation.
