A COUPLE who met while at school in Monmouth have just celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

Roger Watkins, only son of the late Ernest and Winifred Watkins of Lyndale, Llandogo, and Carol Tyrrell, second daughter of the late Gordon and Daisy Tyrrell of Rolls Avenue, Monmouth, were married at St Oudoceus Church, Llandogo.

They met while attending Monmouth School and Monmouth School for Girls respectively.

The couple, who have three daughters and four grandchildren, celebrated with a garden party at their home in Essex.

Mr Watkins, a retired Fleet Street newspaper executive, started his career as a reporter in the Hereford, Monmouth and Forest of Dean area; his wife is the former director of the development trust of St Francis Hospice in Havering-atte-Bower, Essex.
