GIRL Guides at Shirenewton are celebrating after achieving an impressive array of Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Girl Guides from Shirenewton were joined by county councillor Graham Down, Caerwent community councillor Kay Swift and division commissioner Amanda Tindall on Tuesday 15th September for a special evening to mark their achievements.
The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme is open to young people from the age of 14 and requires participating in physical activity, learning or progressing in a skill, volunteering on a regular basis and participating in an expedition.
As participants move through the different levels, the time required to complete each level increases, as does the length and duration of the expedition.
Certificates for completion of the Bronze Award were presented by Councillor Down to Isobel Birkett, Emilia Dadswell-Jones and Rebecca Henshaw. All are now working towards completion of the Silver Award.
Amanda Tindall presented Bethan Edwards and Arian Howells with their Silver Awards.
Completion of the Gold Award requires a great deal of dedication and commitment from participants and for these reasons it is highly regarded by business and Emma Ford was presented with completion certificates for several modules of the Gold Award.
The last award of the evening was to Lucy Duckham who completed the Gold Award late last year and has now received her invitation to St James’ Palace where she will be presented with her certificate by Prince Edward.
