A GROUP of keen fundraisers have raised over £630 for charity in a 2000-mile cycling challenge.

On a glorious spring bank holiday, 29th May, choristers of Caldicot Male Voice Choir’s associated cycle club, Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club and its guest riders took up the challenge to ride as many laps as they were able within eight hours of a two-mile circuit around Redwick to raise funds for The Motor Neurone Disease Association South East Wales Branch.

45 cyclists took part who between them covered 990 laps, completing a total of nearly 2000 miles. The oldest was 80-year-old chorister Harry Giblin who covered 22 miles and the youngest was two-year-old Zac Potter who tore around the two-mile circuit on his tricycle with his grandmother running along side. Most laps were completed by guest riders Nick Powell and Gareth Thomas who were presented with a collage of photographs of the challenge. The day produced a grand total of £632 for the charity.

Caldicot Male Voice Choir has a proud heritage of raising money for charities and other good causes, not only through its concerts but through social and sporting events as well. Future activities for the choir’s fundraising efforts for the Motor Neurone Disease Association include a sponsored cycle ride from Hay-on-Wye to Caldicot, a cycle time trial around the MOD facility at Caerwent, a concert with the famous American Tapestry Choir in St Peter’s RC Church, Cardiff on 30th June, a golf tournament at the St Pierre Resort and a tabletop sale.
