WRITERS of the Moone Boy TV series, Hollywood actor Chris O'Dowd and screenwriter Nick V Murphy, visited Chepstow's Drill Hall last Friday (31st October) to read from their brand new book.
Moone Boy: the Blunder Years follows 11-year-old Martin Moone who invents imaginery friends to help him deal with living in a female dominant household.
The book is a semi-autobiographical reflection of I.T Crowd star Chris O'Dowd's childhood who also grew up in a matriarchal home.
He said: "Martin needs a man to compete with and bring him down a notch.
"He is growing up drowning in female quicksand!
"I never had an imaginary friend growing up but I would have loved to have had the imagination to facilitate one so this book is therapy for me."
The book sees Martin before we visit him in the TV series.
Co-author Nick V Murphy said: "The great thing about doing the book is it allowed us to breathe more. With the television series you are trying to do a lot in 20 minutes."
The duo were on hand to sign copies of their book for excited fans.
After the signing, the pair expressed how much they value feedback from their young readers.
Nick said: "It's been so lovely to come to Chepstow today and meet fans of Moone Boy."
After the signing the duo planned to visit Chepstow Castle which they said "looks amazing."
The book signing was organised by Chepstow Bookshop and saw 150 people turn out to meet the pair.
Owner of Chepstow Bookshop, Matthew Taylor, said: "We were delighted to welcome the authors of Moone Boy, Chris O'Dowd and Nick V Murphy to Chepstow, they were great fun.
"We had a really enthusiastic audience and they answered a lot of questions about both the book and the TV series, plus a few on the I.T Crowd.
"I've bought a copy for my nine-year-old son who came along.
"We have a few signed copies left in the book shop if anyone missed out."
Chepstow Bookshop have several more events coming up including Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas, broadcaster Owen Jones and Paul Atterbury from the Antiques Roadshow.
