The sound of Colonel Bogey horns heralded the departure on Friday morning of 50 Evel Knieval’s on the second leg of their ‘Ride Cymru’ perimeter trip around Wales.
The charity fundraiser for Macmillan began in Wrexham on Thursday 2nd May and the bikers made a circuitous 210 mile journey to an overnight stop in Monmouth before heading off Friday morning for the Wye Valley.
The mayor of Monmouth, Councillor Terry Christopher, was on hand to ‘energise’ the Knieval-dressed lookalikes on a range of bikes from vintage Harley Davidson’s to modern KTM and BMWs with a handful of Hondas for good measure.
Their lunch-time destination that day was the Millennium Centre in Cardiff where Pizza Express were cooking up 25 pizzas to share between them.
They were stopping off at the Newport Transporter Bridge where they would be meeting Richard Jones of the Stereophonics
Jason Lewis, one of the Cymru Knieval organisers said: “It’s all for Macmillan, this year we have raised over £31,000 so far. Day one saw a few little spills with only a little pride dented, but today will be a much easier ride down the Wye Valley to Chepstow
Cllr Christopher said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the members of the Cymru Knievel motor bike group to Monmouth, and I wish them every success in their effort to raise funds for Macmillan during their journey around Wales.”
The event will end back in Wrexham.
