A-LEVEL students across Monmouthshire are celebrating their success today (15th August).

Hundreds of students from around the county are celebrating an outstanding set of examination results enabling them to progress to the next steps in university, colleges and work places all over Britain.

Wyedean School is pleased with a strong set of results in both A-level and BTEC qualifications.

Results in maths and technology subjects have continued to do well with 60 per cent of students studying maths at Wyedean achieving between an A* to B grade.

Fifty-seven per cent of Wyedean BTEC students achieved an A* to A equivalent grade and students in the humanities subjects achieved 72 per cent A* to B.

A spokesperson for Wyedean said: "We could not be more proud of our history of excellence in this area which has been further evidenced by record numbers of our students choosing to study maths, computing, cyber or ICT university courses next year. Our unrivalled broad curriculum has seen successes in both traditional and vocational courses."

Director of sixth form and assistant principal, Jonathan Lane said: “Our sixth formers have made a lasting impression on our school. Their superb contribution to our community through their extra-curricular work and volunteering has now been enhanced by their outstanding results. This is a fitting end to a fantastic year. Congratulations to everyone involved in this tremendous achievement."

Students with particularly outstanding results are:

Carlie Bailey achieved two A* an A and a C grade,

Matthew Blore achieved an A* an A, B and C,

Tom Blore achieved two A* an A and two C grades,

Declan Boyle achieved two A* and two A grades,

Anna Brown achieved three A grades,

Wesley Brown to an A* an A and a B,

Matthew Corney achieved a distinction and two A grades,

Lewis Morgan achieved a distinction an A and a B.

Carlie Bailey said: "I’m excited! It’s a new chapter in my life."

Annabel Morgan said she was excited about getting the grades she had hoped for and that she was "a bit nervous about starting university".

Tom Blore said that his grade were "pretty good, I got the results I needed."

Principal, Gwennan Jeremiah said: “It is fantastic to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our young people and to witness their learning and self-fulfilment as they have progressed in their schooling. At Wyedean, we pride ourselves in providing a diverse and broad range of qualifications which best meet the needs of every student; when better to see this than on results day where we can share successes, support our students and wish them well for their future aspirations, careers and university choices.”

Chepstow School students have also received their A-level results.

Ninety per cent of Chepstow School’s grades were from A* to E, 35 per cent achieved A* to A and 65 per cent achieved A* to B.

A spokesperson for Chepstow School said: "We are proud to report that in all of our performance measures, we have seen yet again, continued improvement."

Isabelle Roberts who achieved three A grades,

Sam Morse who achieved three A grades,

Conor Cameron Evans who achieved one A*, one A grade and one B,

Julian Roland who achieved two A grades and one B,

Joe Simmonds who achieved two A grades and one B,

Ffion Harvey who achieved two A* grades, distinctions and an A-level grade A,

Josh Hudd one A* distinction, one A*, one A grade and a B grade,

Emily Oliver who achieved two A* distinctions.

Today’s results are a culmination of the collective hard work of students, parent/carers and teachers over the last 2 years. All our students will go on to new adventures, challenges and successes in their chosen universities, colleges, apprenticeships and the world of work. These amazing young people have demonstrated determination and resilience whilst at the same time contributing daily to the energy and ethos of Chepstow School. We wish them every success in the future.”

Mr Matthew Sims, headteacher said: “I am delighted with the hard work and effort of all students producing outstanding results. Every student has managed to achieve grades for their university choice and next career pathway."

Mr Craig Bridgeman, Chair of Governors said: “I am proud of the successes of our students and know that they have all the skills they need to make their next steps. Chepstow School staff have supported students in achieving brilliant outcomes that will empower them for the rest of their lives. They are very well prepared for the university, apprenticeships and work placements they go on to and we wish them the very best of luck.”

Students at Caldicot School are celebrating their achievements as they receive their A Level results.

Results at the school have improved on previous years, with 39 per cent of students achieving A* to A grades and an overall pass rate of 100 per cent.

Acting Head of School, Simon Rees, was delighted. “It has been a very exciting morning as, along with improved performance across the school, we have received confirmation from our students of their destinations. We encourage them to be ambitious and it is wonderful to learn that the majority of them can now begin preparing for the next steps, including many embarking upon a whole range of interesting courses at university.

University is not for everyone however, and I am equally proud of our students who are going to be doing an apprenticeship or entering the world of work. Councillor Richard John, Monmouthshire County Council’s cabinet member for Children and Young People said: “I am so pleased to see how much our learners have achieved – they really should be so pleased of what they have achieved today. These results demonstrate how hard students have worked with the support from their families and carers.

"The results are also testament to the excellent work undertaken by our teachers and all of the teams across all four of our secondary schools. Today is a day to celebrate their achievements before they take their exciting next steps towards a successful and rewarding career. Well done everyone.”
