A NEW headteacher for Monmouth Comprehensive School (MCS) has been appointed.

After 27 years, Mr Vaughan Davies, the current head, will be leaving the school at the end of August. He joined the school in 1993 as head of the history department, then becoming deputy head for 10 years before being appointed head teacher.

Mrs Vicky Smith, Chair of Governors said: "I am delighted to announce that after a rigorous, challenging and enjoyable selection process, Mr Hugo Hutchison has accepted the position of headteacher from September 2020.

’’Mr Hutchison joins us from Hertfordshire.

’’I would like to thank everyone who supported us. The process involved a huge amount of engagement with students, staff and external partners and all the candidates were hugely impressed with our school."

Mr Hutchison said: "I am delighted to have been appointed by the governing body, and share their ambitions for the future of this wonderful school. I am looking forward to working with the staff, students, parents, carers and the wider community in order to provide an exceptional standard of education for all of our students."

Mrs Smith added: "The governing body are very much looking forward to working with Mr Hutchison to build on the significant progress made by the school under Mr Davies’ outstanding leadership."
