THE volunteers at Oxfam Monmouth are again making an extra effort to raise much needed funds to help those in crisis. Again it is the poor people of Syria who are the focus of their attention.
Oxfam greatly appreciates all the donations brought to their shop in Monmouth’s Agincourt Square and appreciates it is not always easy for people to get to the shop during opening hours or to park sometimes when the town is busy.
With this in mind the tireless shop volunteers have again decided to open out of hours on Sunday 18th October between 10am and 2pm to receive donations.
“Following the success of our first three Donation Drop-Off Days, and because we wanted to boost donations and funds to help with the Refugee Crisis we have decided to hold a fourth Drop-Off Day,” said Carol Jones, shop manager.
“The humanitarian crisis gets worse and worse with millions fleeing the country to refugee camps, or further afield only to perish as they reach their desired destination. We’ve all seen the heart-breaking coverage on TV and in the press.”
“Oxfam has been on the ground assisting the refugees in the camps in Lebanon and Jordan since the beginning of the conflict. More help is desperately needed to improve the situation these people find themselves in.
The Syrians are just like us - they once had homes, careers, jobs, sent their children to school and enjoyed their lives.”
“We can’t take electrical items or furniture, we just don’t have the space”, Carol added.
“However, everything else will be gratefully received”.
All items of clothing are always appreciated, and M&S clothing and homeware donated qualifies for a £5 shopping voucher to use at M&S.
More information about the day is available at the shop or by telephoning 01600 712499.
