MADAM,
I am sure Mr Davies is sincere in his belief that Britain would be better off out of the European Union than in. However, he is misguided.
Further to the letter from Judith Perks in your last edition, (‘What if deal leaves us worse off?’ 3rd May) may I ask him what he will do if Mrs May’s demand for certain concessions is met with total rejection?
All the indications are that the member states and the commission will offer Britain a simple choice between being completely in the EU, with all the advantages and responsibilities that entails or none of them. Can our exports to our largest market and the loss of London and Europe’s financial centre be made up by selling haggis to America, as the Foreign Secretary suggests?
Last time we washed our hands of Europe we ended up with the devastating consequences of the Second World War.
