I read, yesterday, with yet more dismay and frustration the letter regarding the filth in the subway to Beech Road (Safety concerns over condition of underpass, Beacon letters 1st January). Earlier in the afternoon, I walked along the path on Chippenham Field to see that two relatively newly planted trees have been deliberately snapped off. It was earlier in the year that vandals saw fit to set fire to two benches, severely damaging two beautiful trees.
On Sunday, once again, I helped clear glass off the road beside the football stand within the Sports Association field before being able to drive further.
I am not in favour of the new football stand (so much for the village green status of that area) as it will be a huge blot on the open space enclosing the tennis courts between a noisy and polluting A40, but will become just another covered area for those who have nothing better to do than smoke, drink, litter and behave in a generally anti social way and no doubt cover in graffiti.
I am forever picking up rubbish in the street where I live, picking up polystyrene food trays and removing drinking glasses from window sills which lazy/drunken pub goers see fit to deposit thereon.
I wonder if any of these selfish individuals/groups are ever caught and punished.
