REVELLERS braved the rain over the weekend (20th to 21st May) to attend the Devauden Music Festival at Hood Memorial Hall.

The festival, now in its seventh year, featured an eclectic lineup, including amongst others Rusty Shackle, Grace Hartrey, The Bug Club, and Neville Staple of The Specials.

Children enjoyed the newly created play area, and for the first time, an acoustic stage was featured in the Hood Memorial Hall, adding to the diverse range of music available.

An ‘18 and Under’ music competition came to fruition in a three-way battle of the bands on the Saturday between the bands The Pitchforks, Since Millennium and Society.

In the end, The Pitchforks, a rock band from Rhondda, won the Saturday evening spot on the main stage.

Festival organiser Kevin McElroy said: “It was a very enjoyable weekend with a good mix of artists. Although it was probably the worst weather we’ve had at the festival!.

“On Friday the last act, Rusty Shackle, caught a bit of rain and there were lots of wellies on the Saturday, but everyone took the weather as part of the general festival experience.

“Numbers were good, however might be slightly down from the Saturday of last year because of the rain.

“The kids loved the new play area, which used funds generated from last year’s festival. It’s on the agenda for the next Hall meeting what we do with this year’s funds. We’ll decide on what Devauden needs as well as supporting local charities.

“Thanks to everyone who attended, the bands, and the 100 or so volunteers who did a great job marshalling the festival and manning the bars.”
