MADAM, On Wednesday 27th May I travelled on the 11.30am bus route 36, from Monmouth to Hereford. I sat in the front seat on the upper deck. As we drove through Buckholt an overhanging branch smashed the front window. I was shaken and showered with fragments of glass but otherwise unharmed. On leaving the bus I expressed my opinion to the driver that this route is most unsuitable to operate a double decker and she heartily concurred. On my return home I rang the bus company and made the same comment. Their spokesman also agreed but informed me that they needed to use a larger vehicle because of the number of schoolchildren who use this route. It seems to me that it is a very dangerous practice to be using these vehicles to transport young people, not to mention other members of the public, when they are well aware of the shortcomings of the route. Personally I will not be travelling this way again and I will not be allowing my grandchildren to do so either. K.Tomboline (Monmouth)
