A NEW speed limit through a village has already been beset by a few problems.

The signs on the approach to Trellech from Monmouth on the B4293 warning of the new speed restriction have already been hit by approaching traffic.

The signposts were placed right on the verge unlike the other signs on the other roads and within 24 hours they had been accidentally struck by vehicles turning the speed plates and bending one of the poles.

Trellech resident Pete Garwood said they clearly need re-siting: “I am delighted with the reduced speed limit that makes the village safer. The siting of the signs was a very poor decision though as they were clearly too near the tarmac road compared to the siting of the other signs. I predicted that they were highly likely to be damaged and my concerns were proved right.”

A spokesman for Monmouthshire County Council said: “Contractors have recently installed signs and markings as part of the new 20mph limit within Trellech and a routine post inspection of the works will follow. However, investigation into this incident has identified that the signs should have been set back further and the contractor has been instructed to relocate the post as soon as possible. The cost of these works will be borne by the contractor.”
