A FARMER must provide planners with more information before he can build new storage for machinery and hay in an isolated Wye Valley National Landscape location near protected woodland.

Mr J Lewis wants to put a 32m x 12.9m portal frame building, finished with natural grey fibre cement roof sheets, concrete panel walls and Yorkshire boarding, on his 32-acre Lower Glyn Farm in Devauden.

But Monmouthshire Council has asked him to provide further details on why the barn is “reasonably necessary” for agriculture, and to consider a new location, to avoid it standing in isolation in the protected area of outstanding natural beauty, 350m to the south west of the farmyard and close to ancient woodland.

Devauden Community Council described the proposed size and location as “inappropriate”.
