Monmouth Carnival is gearing up for a change of pace this year as preparations are underway.

Boosted by a generous grant from Monmouth Town Council, Monmouth Carnival will not only be showcasing its usual procession, but also hosting a picnic on Chippenham Playing Fields along with music, stalls, games and more.

The carnival, which takes place on 30th June, was recently boosted by a £4,000 grant thanks to the large project fund from the council’s community affairs committee.

Carnival organiser and local business owner Emma Warmington-Gardner welcomed the help, saying: "I would like to sincerely thank the Town Council community affairs committee for their generous grant.

"The support has made all the difference, not just towards this year’s event but carnivals in the future.

"This year’s carnival may well be the best ever - one to be proud of and enjoyed by many."

The event is run by the community for the community and those visiting Monmouth over the summer.

This year the carnival procession will resume the traditional direction of starting from Priory Street at 2pm, moving down Monnow Street, along Blestium Street and arriving at Chippenham Playing fields to enjoy the picnic in the park.

Carnival entrants have the option of registering on the day as well as via the carnival website. The registration desk will be at St Mary’s Priory on Priory Street and will be taking new entires from 12pm until 1pm.

Carnival organisers are looking for volunteers to help steward on the day and guide the carnival procession through the town. If you can help, email [email protected]
