SIR, Saturday 25th April is Anzac Day and marks the 100th anniversary of the battle of Gallipoli. A battle in which several Welsh Regiments (Royal Welsh Fusiliers, South Wales Borderers, Welch Regiment) fought and in which many Welsh soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice. The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) also lost many, many soldiers and the day is commemorated in both countries as a defining moment in their nationhood. With the support of the Savoy Cinema, Church Street, Monmouth, ABF The Soldiers' Charity is holding a fundraising gala showing of Russell Crowe's new film The Water Diviner on Friday 24th April. The showing will start at 8pm but a reception will be held in the Savoy from 7pm. The Soldiers' Charity provides support for serving and retired soldiers, regular and reserve, and their families who may be facing hardships.
