AS part of National Children's Day this Sunday (17th May) Cadw will open up its sites for free to under-16s.
To celebrate the event, venues including Chepstow Castle, Tintern Abbey and Raglan Castle will encourage families to visit and learn more about the history behind the county's sites.
Chepstow Castle will also host a medieval Magna Carta tournament as part of celebrations.
The William Marshall Tournament will let visitors see the castle as it would have done in its heyday. Named after a key knight in the creation of the Magna Carta, Chepstow Castle was one of William Marshall's strongholds. Children will be able to have a go at a range of activities, from dressing up to fighting in a battle on Sunday.
The National Children's Day scheme sees the Welsh Government's historic environment service work in partnership with children's charity Play Wales to try to get as many people as possible to take part in events and activities that highlight the importance of play and playfulness to both children and adults.
Deputy minister for culture, sport and tourism, Ken Skates AM, said: "I am pleased that we are offering children across Wales the chance to access our fantastic Cadw sites for free on the 17th May.
"This will give them the chance to explore and play in safe and engaging environments and importantly enjoy new experiences as a family."
