A 21-year-old man, thought locally to be from Cardiff, died when a Fiat Punto he was driving was in collision with a family travelling in a BMW on the A48.

Initial information indicated that all four occupants of the BMW were not seriously injured.

After further assessment at hospital, the two-year-old boy who was in the car was deemed to have suffered serious injuries and is now in a critical condition.

The 25-year-old man driving the BMW had also suffered a serious but not life threatening injury while a three-year-old boy in the same car suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

A nine-year-old boy who was in the front passenger seat suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the BMW remains at Bristol Royal Infirmary and the children at Bristol Children's Hospital.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene at around 8am yesterday and the driver of the Punto was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Full road closures were in place at Tutshill and Aylburton while the incident was dealt with, but the road has since re-opened.

Police are once again urging any witnesses who haven't come forward to call 101 and quote incident 72 of 11th February.
