A father from Chepstow is gearing up for his next challenge after raising around £25,000 for various charities across Wales. In September, Paul Freeman, 47, will embark on the Chepstow Stampede – a new race at Chepstow Racecourse. Paul sadly lost a close friend several years ago, after a hard fought illness. He was inspired to raise money for key charities as a thank you to those who treated her, and to further scientific research into conditions which don't have a cure. As part of his fundraising journey, Paul has taken part in many 10k races for charity and also organised two charity dinners. He estimates that he has raised around £25,000 from the various charity events he's been involved in. Paul is now set to take on the Chepstow Stampede, along with daughter Rebecca, 17, in aid of Kidney Research UK. Paul said: "In the grand scheme of things I don't think £25,000 is that much, but if everybody gave a little bit back perhaps we could improve medical science and finally defeat these horrible illnesses. "My daughter Rebecca is running the Stampede with me, as the thought of waist high water and deep mud put my wife off a little. Personally, I think it's going to be great fun." The Chepstow Stampede takes place on 27th September, the 5k and 10k races combining trail running with obstacles to test speed, strength and endurance. Military physical training instructors have carefully designed the course to introduce the novice to cross country running, while also challenging the hardiest elite runners. The course includes manmade horse hurdles and maximises the natural obstacles of the stunning surrounding landscape including ditches, mud pits, bogs and the infamous Giant's Cave rock tunnel. Linda Rogers, events manager for Kidney Research UK, said: "Three million people in the UK are at risk of kidney disease, which doesn't have a cure. "The Chepstow Stampede is a brand new and exciting event that will help support Kidney Research UK's work, and any money raised will allow us to continue to fund the best research into kidney disease, which can affect anyone." Registration costs £26.50, and every runner will receive a free Kidney Research UK T-shirt. For more information about the Chepstow Stampede, visit http://www.chepstow">www.chepstow stampede.com
