GENEROUS shoppers donated large amounts of food to Chepstow Foodbank during the Neighbourhood Food Collection at Tesco from 1st to 3rd December.

A table stocked with vital food supplies was at the front of the store, and customers were encouraged to pick an item from the table, pay for it and drop it back off to the foodbank volunteers.

December is the busiest month of the year for Chepstow Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust network. Last December the foodbank provided 209 three day emergency food supplies to local people in crisis, 95 of which went to children.

With help from generous shoppers, the food bank will be providing seasonal extras to people referred to them for emergency food, such as festive food hampers alongside the standard three day food parcel, and toys for children.

Sarah Coleman, manager of Chepstow Foodbank said: “Shoppers have been very generous, as they don’t want people to go without during this festive period. We are so fortunate to have the support of the community all year round; in order to provide emergency support when local people need it most, we absolutely rely on the kindness and generosity of the people of Chepstow. Without their support, we simply could not do the work we do.”
