The children of Castle Park School in Caldicot are celebrating after being named special award winners of the Total Green School Awards. Their project 'Bridging the Gap' was given a Special Award in the Totally Clued Up category for schools across Wales and Western England 2014. The Total Green School Awards is a nationwide competition for five to 11-year-olds, which is run by the Young People's Trust for the Environment (YPTE) in partnership with Total. The competition, which aims to generate interest in the environment and raise awareness of the need for sustainable energy sources, has received entries from over 35,000 school children in 2014. YPTE Director, Peter Littlewood, said: "Castle Park have been UK Champions of the Total Green School Awards before. "We are used to seeing excellent work from the children there, but this year, we had a real problem choosing between them and the eventual Regional Champions, Okehampton Primary School from Devon, who had entered the same award category. "Castle Park's project was so good that we have given the school a special award of £500, which is the same amount awarded to a Regional Winner to reflect how good a project theirs was." The Total Green School Awards competition will run again in 2014-15.
