CALLS for extending the speed limit from Tintern towards the Old Station have been supported by a county councillor.
55 residents and business owners have signed a petition to extend the present 30mph speed limit out of the village in an effort to curb the number of traffic incidents, including fatalities, that have happened on that road over the last few years.
The petition says that residents, visitors and operators of local businesses are endangered when entering the road from adjoining premises.
County councillor for St Arvans with Tintern, Ann Webb presented the petition to councillor Jim Higginson.
Cllr Webb, who fully supports the proposal and would like to see it extended further to encompass Brockwier Bridge said: “I have looked into this with MCC’s Traffic Manager Paul Keeble, the community council and the police on several occasions to no avail.”
