MADAM,

The Noah’s Ark Charity is calling on primary schools in Monmouthshire to become superheroes for the young patients at Wales’ only children’s hospital this summer term.

The charity wants primary schools to sign up to its first ever Big Schools Superhero Challenge, a fun sporting event where children run, walk or wheel either one or two kilometres dressed as their favourite superhero in return for sponsorship.

Noah’s Ark Charity community engagement manager, Kath Fisher says: “Young patients here at the hospital are often called superheroes by the people who care for them. Whether they’ve been injured as a result of an accident, are receiving treatment and therapy for a long term condition or recovering from an operation or sudden illness, we see their courage and determination every day.

“Every year the hospital sees more than 24,742 admissions from the area covered by the Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board.”

By registering online, schools will get instant access to a download page containing a full resource pack which includes sponsorship forms, letter templates and a make your own costume guide.  The pack also contains an assembly presentation which links the activity to core skills in fitness, wellbeing and citizenship as well as the Curriculum Cymreig’s objectives around the development of cultural identity and belonging. All resources are available in both Welsh and English.

Kath Fisher continued: “We designed the challenge to be fully inclusive so children can walk, wheel or run a distance that’s suitable to them. There’s also no need to spend money on expensive costumes because we’ll provide you with an easy guide to designing and making an outfit of your very own. What matters to us is that everyone that wants to take part, can take part.”
