Monmouth design practice Platform One recently marked up 52 years in business, making it one of the oldest independent studios in Wales.

It has survived three recessions and overcome the hardships of bad debt; and it has constantly met the challenges of changing markets and new technology. This achievement has been recognised with Platform One announced in the Wales & N.Ireland final of the prestigious Rural Business Awards as winners of the regional ’Triumph Over Adversity’ award. The annual Rural Business Awards, in partnership with Amazon, is the UK’s biggest and most respected celebration of rural businesses.Speaking on behalf of Platform One, Sherren McCabe-Finlayson, who is also Chair of Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, said, "This award was completely unexpected and makes us very proud. Thank you to Amazon and the Rural Business Awards for recognising us - the news has given us a huge boost and now we’re looking forward to representing our region in the national final next February."Platform One was established in 1969 by Geoff Hughes and David Evans, who is still a full-time partner and practising designer. David added,"There have been many ups and downs over the course of 52 years, but we’ve had the privilege of working for a wide range of clients throughout the UK, in Europe and the Middle East, and exciting new opportunities continue to come our way."In their hometown, there is plenty of Platform One’s portfolio on view, including the Poppy Trail that runs from the Memorial Garden adjacent to Monmouth Castle, down Castle Hill and through Monnow Street; banners and illustrated panels that chart Monmouth’s history. The design team is also responsible for the Monmouth maps and the Shop Local campaign. In addition to their heritage projects, Platform One have worked, and continue to work, for local, start-up businesses right through to national and international companies.
