MADAM,

I was interested to read the efforts people have made to save the 65 bus service between Monmouth and Chepstow. You reported a 1,000 signature petition endorsed by Cllr Blakebrough had been presented to the council (Petition sends ‘roar of disapproval’ to council, 25th July 2018). I am an occasional user of the 65 bus and most of the times I am the only passenger between Trellech and Chepstow. It made me wonder how many of the 1,000 signatories actually use the service and how much due diligence Cllr Blakebrough did before her endorsement.

Whilst we would all love to see the routes preserved or even enhanced (it’s a 40 minute walk to my nearest bus stop) this has to be judged on the economics and not on the heart. If the 65 is a service that not many people are using why have 1,000 people and a local councillor fought to waste money that could be best used on other facilities?
