THE newly refurbished Magor Co-operative was opened by Bridges Community Centre volunteers who have truly displayed community spirit recently.

During the refurbishment process, a pop-up shop in Magor was set up by the volunteers from Building Bridges in Monmouth.

The shop was based in the Magor Angling shop in Magor Square.

Work on the Co-operative meant that had the pop-up shop not opened, elderly residents would have had to travel out of the village to access their nearest shop.

The pop-up shop stocked basics such as tinned goods, newspapers, toiletries and more, all given to the store at cost.

Volunteers at the pop-up shop opened the newly refurbished Co-operative last Friday (7th November).

Bridges' Project worker Fred Weston said: "The time we spent in Magor has been excellent.

"Everyone has supported the shop by coming in and thanking us for our help.

"I'm very impressed with the fantastic community spirit in Magor.

"The pop-up shop has been a great opportunity for volunteers to learn new skills that they can take with them into future employment."

Operations manager at Magor Co-operative, Gary Thompson, said: "We are so grateful for everything the volunteers at Bridges have done for the community.

"That is why we will be donating £200 to Bridges."
