A Chepstow councillor says ward boundary changes proposed for the town are "bonkers".

Part of town and county councillor Armand Watts' Thornwell ward would form a new 'Maple Avenue' ward for the town council.

If the changes go ahead, the boundaries would be markedly different from those set out for the county council.

"It doesn't make any sense," said Cllr Watts, "people will be in one ward for the town council and another for the county council.

"When it comes to voting, people could have a polling station over the road for one election and another on the other side of town – it is only going to confuse people when we want to encourage them to vote."
