NEIGHBOURS of a town police station were furious when a bomb hoax ‘prank’ saw them ordered out of their homes for more than two hours while bomb disposal experts checked over a car last night.

Police have been asked to confirm that no further action is being taken, after reports that a “fake bomb” had been placed in a car in Usk and driven 14 miles to Monmouth Police Station before the vehicle owner’s family and friends arrived hours later to reveal it was a ‘prank’.

One woman who was ordered out of her home with her family early on Friday evening said after learning what had happened: “Not at all funny, hours of evacuation from our homes and disruption for one big joke, really?”

Glendower Street leading onto the town’s high street was closed off until 9pm.

While Gwent Police are yet to make a statement, a neighbouring business owner said on Monmouth New Businesses Facebook page: “Turns out it was a hoax, a prank on someone by his family and friends…

“A fake bomb was placed in a car in Usk, the owner then drove to Monmouth Police Station for them to investigate.

“His family and friends then turned up several hours later for the big reveal.

“Despite the street closure, evacuation of many families, seniors made to stand in the cold and the understandable anger of the Bomb Squad, no further police action will be taken.”
