THE body of a man has been recovered from the River Wye in Chepstow in what has been described as a “routine training exercise”.

The body, which has not yet been formally identified, was recovered from the river near Broadrock, around two miles north of the town, at 10.40am yesterday (Sunday 8th January).

A spokesperson from Severn Area Rescue Association said the body was found during a land search training exercise. They said: “A body was found yesterday, 8th January, on a bank of the Wye during a routine SARA land search training exercise and reported to the police.

“Following consultation with the police, two SARA lifeboats were despatched from Beachley. The body was recovered by lifeboat and subsequently handed over to the Police and Coastguard.”

Gloucestershire Police says the coroner has been informed about the incident.
