THE next production of Brockweir Amateur Dramatic Society (BADS) is loosely based around the Kenneth Graham classic, Wind in the Willows and will take place this Friday (8th April) and Saturday (9th April).

The set is prepared, the scenery painted and the cast is ready to go.

The society has been running for more than 25 years and has raised substantial sums for charity at its pantomimes.

Charities to benefit from this year’s performance are: Brockweir Moravian Church, Llandogo Early Years Playgroup, CentrePoint and Brooke Hospital for equines.

The play this year has been written by long-standing BADS member Corinne Cassidy and in the plot the genteel pastime of boating on the Wye gets spiced up after the main protagonists make frequent visits to riverside hostelries which leads to a fight for power.

Toad has gone green and is determined to eradicate the pesky and persistent power cuts which pester the inhabitants of Brockweir. His ideas are far-ranging and forward thinking, but not everyone agrees with his point of view.

In fact, the stoats and weasels of the Forest have other ideas seeing fracking as the answer to their dreams of power! It seems that there is gas in the village, but can they access it?

Mole’s thoughts are of a more basic nature and is desperate to find a lady friend. He is even prepared to learn new skills and test new waters to find it. Is this a way to find love or is he heading for more trouble and disappointment?

Can Toad save Toad Hall? Will Mole find true love or is he, Ratty and Badger doomed to remain bachelor boys until their dying days? Find out what sheep have to do with this yarn.

The production will start at 8pm on Friday and 2pm and 7.30pm on Saturday at the Mackenzie Hall, Brockweir.

As ever, within the evening price of £9 a free pasty is included.

Entry price for the Saturday matinee is £3.50. Tickets are available from Brockweir Village Shop, Brockweir Country Inn and Brown’s of Llandogo.
